Relax Kids CoachI am trained as a relax kids coach which allows me to run both group and individual sessions for children of all ages. The relax kids model incorporates 7 steps which include playing, stretching, breathing, affirmations and visualisations which moves children from high energy states to more relaxed calm states. Children can use these tools at home whenever they feel they need more calm time. These sessions can be at school, after school or at home.

CRM uses breathing and relaxation tools. Cognitive therapy also does this. However, the core of a cognitive process rests on leading people through an “exposure” exercise to repeatedly revisit their most distressing memories so they gradually become easier to bear. At the same time, the therapist will talk through what happened with the person to help them arrive at a less threatening interpretation so the past loses its grip over the present. Studies show the approach can help people who have suffered a one-off event such as a car crash or violent assault. However, there is far less evidence to prove it helps people with the most complex presentations.
Talking therapy engages primarily with the prefrontal cortex, the top part of the brain that processes language and abstract thought. To truly resolve decades-old fear, anger or shame, the therapist needs to find a way to influence the primitive, instinct-driven parts of the brain near the top of the spine. Words alone are unlikely to have much impact on these deeper, preverbal regions. The best way to rewire this “emotional brain” is to help people work from the “bottom up” by putting their physical sensations at the centre of the process.

These are some of the things that can happen when we feel anxious. Everyone experiences anxiety at some time. Anxiety occurs when we think there is a threat to us. Chemicals fire off in our body which create some of the above experiences. Sure, medication can help, but doesn’t address the cause of our anxious thoughts. This is where therapy can help, I will help you look at your thoughts, any triggers and give you tools that you can use anywhere to help you feel more calm.
DepressionNegative Thoughts? Heavy feeling in your body? Has your get up and go got up and gone away? Wanting to hide away from others? Having feelings that people could be better off without you?
Many people experience depression which has the effect of making even the smallest task seem like you’re climbing a mountain. Depression is caused by a chemical change in the body, so until you start releasing those negative chemicals, it can seem that change is hard to find.
Therapy can help you gain a different perspective on your life, no matter how difficult your life seems.
RelaxationBenefits of relaxation include deactivating the stress response system in our body.
This means we feel much calmer and able to manage stressful situations from a relaxed space of mind. Techniques include breathing, meditation, visualisations or stretching. I can offer individual sessions or group sessions for adults based on relaxation techniques.
Children and Young PeopleChildren and young people may benefit from therapy to provide support while they work through issues that are troubling them.
Children can feel anxious, down, lack confidence or have feelings of anger. As a result of difficult feelings, they may experience challenges with friendships or studying. I have worked with issues such as:
